Lion Dancer
This was apart of a collection of masks I did for a class. The assignment for this one in particular was to use masks that have existed in culture as an inspiration for your own. I went with a lion dancer hood as my inspiration because of a memory I have of them.
This particular mask was all about shape and form for me, I grew up watching this one SFX makeup show which I used as another inspiration. This mask was made from a human form and I used clay to sculpt something that I could work with.
Bug-eyed
Apart of the same class, this mask was focused on exaggeration. I exaggerated the eyes for my mask as you can see and I really wanted to play around the concept of big eyes being a beauty standard while also playing on bug imagery with the rhinestones.
I have this one as an example because Its very evocative of my style and aesthetics I like to lean towards. I like bright colors, feminine aesthetics, shiny things etc.
